You’re not broken or hopeless.
You’re patterned.
And patterns can change.

My shoulders dropped, and my heart lightened after reading these words the first time. An unconscious weight lifted in me.
These words are filled with compassion and grace.
You are not broken or hopeless.
You are patterned, and patterns can change.
Think about it: A pattern is a repeated way of thinking, behaving, or responding. Patterns are everywhere. They develop because repetition makes life predictable, and predictability can conserve mental energy.
We are a blend of all we’ve encountered since childhood.
Early on, you may have learned how to keep the peace.
Or how to get attention.
Or how to hide disappointments.
You may have learned how to swallow anger or let it rage.
Or which foods soothe emotions.
Or that doing more was better.
Or how to fight through pain.
We create patterns to help us cope.
Some patterns support well-being. Some keep us stuck.
It takes courage to identify a pattern and understand its impact.
It takes courage to consider a change.
There is no need to judge a pattern. Patterns are just that…patterns.
And patterns can change.
